Preventing coughs, colds and the flu isn’t just as simple as just washing your hands and taking Vitamin C. Cold prevention is about increasing your body’s resistance and reducing your susceptibility to infections. It affects all too many people every autumn and winter and needlessly jams our hospitals.
When you come into contact with a bacteria or a virus capable of causing a cough, cold, sore throat or influenza, your body can have one of several responses, and if your immune system is healthy and strong, you will fight off any bugs without ever getting sick. However, If your body has been stressed and fatigued and is already weak and inflamed, your immunity may be quite low which will increase your susceptibility, and this may mean a week in bed with flu symptoms. When it comes to cold prevention to a large degree it is about your cortisol levels, the health of your adrenal glands and the state of your bowel! Yes that’s right your bowel after all that is where about 80% of you immune system lives.
If you have been suffering from recurring coughs, colds, sore throats or relapsing influenza or even if you just want to strengthen your immune state as you progress into winter there are some very simple things you can do.
Conventional medicine appears to have missed the boat when it comes to the prevention of immune related illness which plague so many in autumn and winter. We will be told that poor immunity is just a fact of life for most people, and to have a flu shot, eat well, wash our hands, to cough in our handkerchief and to “soldier on”. And if we do get sick, we will be recommended an antibiotic, with little thought if any being given to strengthening our immune response. A closer look, in light of what we know will yield a more instructive course of action. The reality is that there certainly is a marked connection between stress or bowel function and poor immunity, and that by strengthening them we will be in a much better position to avoid the consequences of a poor immune system each winter. That way, when bugs are “doing the rounds”, your immune system will be well equipped to fight back and resist any infection.
The trick to cold prevention and staying fit and healthy all autumn and winter long, is to feed your body what it needs, taking steps to reduce your stress levels and improve the quality of your sleep, and more importantly by boosting immunity, this will be primarily achieved by ensuring your cortisol levels are very well balanced, that way you will be more likely to resist most all bacterial or viral illnesses. An ounce of cold prevention is infinitely better than a pound cure.
When you nourish your adrenal glands, feed your body what it needs, and take steps to reduce any inflammation and boost immunity by way of healthy dietary and lifestyle measures, you’re far more likely to resist the flu and potentially many other illnesses. Prevention is more important than treatment,
